A Java guy goes to Microsoft Codecamp

So this week the annual Microsoft TechEd conference takes place along with another NZ.NET User Group Code Camp, with the upcoming Java Emerging Tech mini-conf coming up the 17th I thought I'd cruise along and check out what's new in the MS world and see how other conferences are being run (and no, I wasn't just there to stalk Scott Hanselman).

Scott Hanselman

It was interesting to see Rob Fonseca-Ensor's talk on Test Driven Development, Jonas Follescoe's Unit Testing and Silverlight session, and Owen Evans ASP.net MVC overview (sadly it reminded me of Struts 1.x era web frameworks, but with some much needed ROOTing support for REST style applications.

Whilst not really knowing anything about recent Microsoft technology it was a fun day out, and was good to talk with other developers about similar, but different issues.

One of my other reasons for heading to Code Camp this year was to look beyond my limited circle of Java developers and seek out a broader range of folk who would be interested in having CITCON hear in Auckland next year - thankfully I found a few, and hopefully more to come.

Hi Mark,

So what are the chances of having CITCON in Auckland next year? I don't think I've seen any news of plans yet. My impression at the end of the Melbourne conference was that it was good odds the next year would be in Australia. Personally I'm happy enough to go to Oz for it, but Auckland would also be cool.

If you look closely, you can see the ray of heavenly light falling on scott hanselman. Or maybe it's aiming for his iPhone
