Dead Dapper Drake
Call me an insane bleeding monkey but I updated my home machine to Unbuntu's "still in development" Dapper Drake distribution to give it a bash - I updated my sources.list and watched as 900mb of packages downloaded and installed...
...everything went fine - new kernels, new Gnome, everything was shiny and clean.
Only, I think things were a little TOOO shiny and clean as my PPPoE connections kept on sliding off the world into the nether world. After about 5-15 seconds of PPPoE connectivity I keep seeing "Timeout waiting for PADO packet" and see no network traffic at all (althought the ISP sees me being connection and doing some-measure of traffic).
Thinking it may have been some problem with apt-getting an upgrade I decided to install cleanly - my burnt ISO passed the media check, had the right MD5, so off I went...
Sadly - moments - after watching my / and /boot partitions format, and packages start to copy the installer died with failures reading the packages :(
3-4 more ISO downloads later (invalid MD5s, broken downloads etc. etc.) I finally manage to get Dapper Drake installed once again on my machine.
Sadly, PPPoE is still broken :( And it doesn't seem like my particular problem appears in launchpad, nor it would seem anyone in #ubuntu+1 even uses PPPoE :(
So here I am stuck on the windows based laptop for a week (which is a posting all unto itself actually).
*sigh*
Fedora Core 5 should be out next week. You know you want to. PS: forms that *require* javascript to submit are unnecessary, man.
