His Infernal Majesty - St James, Auckland

concert  metal  goth  rock

Just returned from the HIM concert at the St James theater in Auckland - a most excellent gig although the mix could have been a wee bit better - was often rather hard to hear Ville's vocals.

I have to wonder thou, where the hell did all the 400+ teen girl goths come from? There even seemed to be clearly identifable parents made up to "fit in", however the best quote of the night goes to 30something punk with a young 14/15yr old girl - after getting seriously dodgy looks he proclaimed loudly to no one in particular "I'm here with MY DAUGHTER like the rest of you..." :)

Out of all the great songs they played, it was a shame they didn't play Dark Light or Pretending, two of my all time favorite HIM tunes

.

Next up - OPETH!

Saw Opeth for their "special show" at the beginning of the year, totally amazing. Looking forward to Celtic Frost in September in NYC.

Hey there! I have seen HIM 4 times now & will again on the 25th April. I am a kiwi chick in her mid-twenties who is currently living in London. I saw a video of the HIM gig in NZ & I agree you couldn't hear him too well. Which when I see them, his vocals are quite clear for most of the songs, it's just the crowd drowns him out with singing along. They have a HUGE fan base here! Massive! Pretending is such a great song & how funny they didn't play Dark Light, the album name!!! Do you know their earlier stuff? Opeth is wicked too! You'd be interested in the Download Festival here, Opeth play, HIM have played. Will be seeing Metallica this year again. Black Sabbath played. It's in the UK. Anyways cool to hear a fellow kiwi enjoying HIM. enjoy Opeth! cheers
