Holiday Escapes...

posted Saturday, 14 October 2006
For the first time in what seems like years I'm taking next week for a holiday - nothing overtly fancy, just tripping around three cities in New Zealand (Hamilton, Palmerston North, and Napier (home town)) - main difference with this trip will be the first holiday/vacation with Shelley - it'll be interesting to see how things go...

And of course, whats a holiday without some pre-holiday shopping to start of the relaxation with?

First up we have some new music to enjoy on the road trip (well, I'm sure I'll enjoy it at least...):
  • Trivium - The Crusade
The boys in Trivium are definitely on form with this third release...
  • TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
TV on the Radio is definitely one of the stranger music purchases I've made in a while - alternative, odd, almost radio unfriendly, avant garde, yet somewhat pop rocky and definitely something that caught my ears when I first heard them on the New York Times Popcast.
  • Evanescence - The Open Door
Next up is reading material:
  • Stephen R. Lawhead - Hood
I've always had a thing for Lawheads writing, ever since I read Taliesin (one of the very first books I read that really got me interested in reading). I'm very much looking forward to his take on the legendary Robin Hood character...
  • Sarah Quigley - Write, a 30-day guide to creative writing
For the last few months I've been seeing this book on the shelves at Borders and I keep picking it up, reading a few pages, then putting it down. I finally decided to buy the damn book as its got some quite good exercises for improving ones writing...
Drivers License PhotoQuite annoyingly, earlier in the week I discovered I'd lost my drivers license so this morning was spent running around getting that sorted out before heading off on holiday - somehow I don't particularly like the idea of getting something like a $200-$400 fine for merely not having my drivers license card on me - I was quite looking forward to finally getting a new photo rather than the somewhat disturbing photo I've been stuck with for a number of years, only I was told I would have to wait for my new card to arrive in order to surrender it and get one with a new photo (and of course, pay $35 for a new license on top of the $35 I was paying for this license) - I think I'll stick with the ugly photo for a while longer - regardless of this however I did get a much needed haircut...

Taking photos of oneself whilst holding the camera generally makes for bad photos... oh well
