New Books...

posted Thursday, 18 November 2004
Amongst the mass of newly arrived books from Amazon and "accidental" purchases from the Borders down the road, I found the following passage:

...It's the ensuing election race that the full range of dirty tricks and media schemes and old-fashioned shallow posturing endemic to contempory politics are laid bare.  Both candidates engage in the timeless political arts of mugging for photos with cute kids and shamelessly sucking up to senior citizens, but they save their vilest stuff for their compaign commercials.

One could be mislead to think this is in reference to the recent Kerry vs Bush election, but no - the dialog continues...

Quimby's ad employs a jingle to celebrate his meagre accomplishments ( a tyre yard and mid-sized roller rink, a gallows and shiny Bigfoot trap), while Bob's commercial attacks Quimby for supporting the very 'revolving-door prisons' that led to Bob himself to be released in the first place.

I am in fact, refering to Chris Turner's new book "Planet Simpson", which jumped out at me at Borders, and forced to purchase it after reading the above, and a few other amusing, and thought provoking paragraphs.

Other books that found there way into my Christmas period reading list were:

I'm really hoping I don't receive one of these books from Kim's Christmas book swap project, but if I do, I can always pass the present onto someone else... My book was sent off last week, although I've heard confirmation of its receipt, nor has the book sent to me arrived yet, heres hoping everythings posted fine...

Um ... WOW.

I didn't know that Donaldson was writing a third chronicle. I read those books when I was eight or nine.

I'll be buying this ASAP.

Cheers man,
