So I just finnished reading Newton's Wake - it was a good read, a somewhat cross between The Sopranos, Stargate, and a backup policy schedule, complete with virus's from the makers of the world's most secure operating systems. Theres also virtuality, singularitys, casuality conflicts blocking uber-fu*kups through wormholes. and other such sci-fi guff to make any geek squirm with delight. Still - for a space opera based about Glasgow gansters in an intersteller turf war against America Offline, Communists, and a virtual reality Iraqi Comp.Sci student ressurected from the late 2030's, and a rock opera a the biggest American military blunder the worlds neverseen - you've got one hell of a story arc :) Oh - theres also robotic cyber sex in for good measure too.
