Several months ago I wrote the following while sitting in church:
I'm falling down, down beneath into the ground
I'm feeling lost, and I don't know how to turn around
I'm not feeling lonely, but I'm feeling all bewildred
I can't break this cycle, and I'm falling down into..
The sound of darkness
The heart of nothingness
The shape of hopelessness and all regret...
I never really finnished the piece, or thought about again untill I found it this evening, after I wrote the following in my notebook during the service tonight:
No matter how much crap there is in my life, God is with me - and I have hope, and faith in him.
I get the image that I'm leaning over the cliff looking down a ravine, I should be falling to my demise but a hand reaches out and holds me over the edge. I ask God for help and he pulls me upright and lets go - I'm still on the edge overlooking all my problems, only now I'm not in any immediate danger of falling.
However, I still need to make that concious effort to turn around and walk away from the edge; only this time - I'm not going to fall.
It's easy to say "my life sucks and theres problems left, right, and center", and it's easy to think to yourself "its ok,
will save me, I have faith" - but its another thing to actually do something about it. Tonights message had a few points which relate to this ( even thou this is nothing to do with the message ):
- Resist the allure of "quick rich schemes": Proverbs 28:19-22 - It's was amusing that Pastor Paul used the Nigerian Scam as an example of this.
- Listen to the council of those succeeding around us. Proverbs 11:44, Proverbs 13:8 - If you're doing the sames as those around you, and they're successfull whilst you flounder, ask them for advise - they obviously know something you don't ( mmm, blogging as a biblical principle... ).
- Remember perserverance creates a pathway. Galations 6:9, Proverbs 20:4 - Don't give up at the first hurdle, every problem has a solution. As previously mentioned, seek wise counsel for direction and advise, and continue on. Many will try the "get rich quick" solutions and only end up back in the same solution. I've often seen people go in a "selling spree" to try and make money to pay debts, but it always ends up only being a temorary solution. Without working through why you're having financial problems, the problems will just come back. Perserverance at saving and not spending needlessly will reap more rewards in the long term, than quick payoffs ( says he who got two more CDs today ).
You may be on the edge - but you're not at the bottom.links: digg this del.icio.us technorati reddit
