Initially I just paused, or lagged as a surreal numbness uncomfortably came over me - know what pain my dad must be feeling as he says he's calling an ambulance. I re-read what I'm seeing, subtly noticing that what was well typed (spelling errors aside) has turned into what I can only imagine was an agonizing one handed chicken pecked attempt at typing a goodbye message.

Knowing that I'm a 6 or so hour drive away, and hopelessly useless for anything in the situation leaves me feeling empty and drained.

Hope you're feeling better soon dad - miss you, love you.

Stiff legs, bruises, sore neck (karting isn't supposed to be a contact sport right?) - after the racing we (work mates) headed off for 10 Pin Bowling where I prompted felt the tendon in the back of my foot go 'snap' like a rubber-band taking me out of the game - doh.

Thankfully there doesn't seem to be any serious damage (although admittedly I've not seen a doctor yet which I will if the pain continues) and there doesn't seem to be much pain or swelling remaining (other than stiffness).

It also seems like I'll be remaining in this house after it sells, which is great as I won't need to pack anything, but it also means I'll remain close to these enjoyable cycling routes...

I was just rereading through some old forums and found a post I made to one of the cycling usenet groups at the beginning of last year and liked this followup from "RobertF":

Just remember this, Christipher Reaves would give all he has to be able to feel the pain you are feeling after riding a few miles. Do you think he would complain or stop riding? So just think how lucky we are to be able to work our bodies to the point of pain and exhaustion..

Whenever I'm out and feel the pain, I keep thinking back to this comment - I might not like the pain, but I sure as hell like the ability to feel that pain...
Leave Comment

Sunday Morning Ride

So spring's really here and the sun was out in all her glory this morning, so instead of just sleeping in I decided to take the bike out for a ride around the Mangere Bridge waterfront.

Starting from [1] and heading out to [2], over to [3], all the way back along to [4], and back to [1] to complete the circuit. It's a short course, 5.69km ( according to the ride computer ) in around 18 minutes. I tell ya thou, even if I get alot fitter from riding, I don't think I'll ride for much further in one sitting untill my arse stops hurting as much as it did after even this short ride; maybe I need a better saddle for the bike.

As you can see, I still have the original fat gripping tires that are more suited to mountain biking, rather than road riding which I'm using the bike for, I should really look at getting some more "road riding" tires - my current flatmate offered some of his old road tires, but I'm the kinda guy who likes to get things new if possible. The question is - do I just need tires, or tires and rims, and weather theres any benefit in either; i.e. thinner rims on thinner road tyres, as opposed to fatter road tires on my existing rims.

Any bikers out there with suggestions?
Leave Comment

\m/ MetalExercise 101 \m/

So this weeks Weight Watchers "homework" was to endevour to do 10 minutes more exercise each day one would normally do, so what does a metal loving freak like me do?
