Discussions on Warfare

• Friday dinner at Y-Not for my brothers birthday, good food and company.
• Picked up the Warcraft board game from CPI, ran into Colin and ended up spending the rest of the afternoon playing the game with him, sadly I lost :( Awesome game thou, somewhat complex even with just the two of us; I can't imagine the confusion when playing with four - and now I see theres an expansion pack coming...
• The landlords decided to sell the house I'm renting, so its time to sadly move on again. Had a look at several places on Saturday but nothing of anything decent. Saw one "studio apartment" which turned out to be a tiny room and kitchen underneath the landlords house. I've seen some nice inner city apartments for rent but they all include their own whiteware. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and look at buying something, pity I don't have anything near what I'd need for a deposit.
• Watched "Starsky and Hutch" and Timeline on DIVX - excellent films. Really enjoyed Timeline.
• Talked myself into doing some Windows development at work - loaded up Delphi and somewhat instantly felt bad for doing so. Suddenly I was having flashbacks to what I learnt to hate with Delphi - its development model makes you focus on the GUI and not the model behind it. Having been looking at Smalltalk based systems lately I installed Dolphin Smalltalk and started to explore, and enjoy. I'm fast starting to like Dolphin, and whilst GUI's seem somewhat harder ( initially ) I like the MVP (model view presenter ) way of working. The view designer could be a little better, and the documentation seems online, but the folks on comp.lang.smalltalk.dolphin seem responsive and helpfull. Here's hoping I can convince my employers to pay for a copy of Dolphin if we choose to go ahead and use it ( somewhat hard as it would seem I'm one of the only people in NZ that seem to know of Smalltalk, let alone seem to KNOW it ( ok, I'm sure theres others outthere, but they hide well ))...
