Home visit - family, friends, and a rugby game...

KC Magpies vs Wanganui
  • Took an hour or so off work on Friday and attempted to beat the traffic on the Motorway down to Napier to see my parents. I say attempt - I got stuck in between about 10 trucks going as slow as they could for most of the drive - and that wasn't even the main journey :( Got to Napier around 5.5 hours with no rain and fairly empty roads for the main drive... All good.
  • Spent the evening catching up with my parents hearing all the gossip and stories of their recent trip to England, including the story of my dad falling out of bed and hurting himself something cronic (he's had numerous hip replacements on the same leg, so this isn't just a minor thing if anything bad happened) which they'd selectively not told us about earlier "so we wouldn't worry". I'm glad they didn't tell us, I couldn't have done anything except worry if they had, still - part of me wishes I could have worried - it's what you're supposed to do for those you love but can't help - right?
  • Spent the morning wandering the local bookshops finding nothing to buy (*looks at the bookshelf of easily 100+ unread books*) then hunted out the only Starbucks in Napier (passing at least 4-5 other coffee shops on the way as well). Caught up with an old friend spent the rest of the day hanging out....
  • ....at the rugby of all places. I hate rugby, always have, and judging by the game - always will. Still, I enjoyed the sunshine, fresh air, and company of friends.
  • Spent Sunday making the 5 hour drive home again, only this time instead of clear skys and empty roads it was constant violent wind and rain, busy roads, and at least 20 police cars back and forth the whole journy...
All in all, a fun weekend away...
