Starbucks Challenge - Westfield St Lukes, Auckland, New Zealand
Following church this morning I headed over to the Westfield St Lukes mall to check out the new Games Plus games/video store and once again found myself at the Starbucks upstairs. Whilst standing in line I overheard the counter girl tell the person in front of me that their bar was broken and couldn't pull shots - so they only had iced frapachino's and chai lattes, oh dear - whats a drinker to do (more than a few patrons walked the extra 50 feet to Esquires coffee opposite)?
Before she could tell me about the broken bar I simply asked "Could I have a pot of Fair Trade?" which triggered a similiar response to yesterdays challenge - "Filter coffee?" The barista leans over and says "yep, just like filter coffee but you use the Fair Trade stuff" and grabs a fresh bag off the shelf. I was asked what size pot I wanted, and what sized cup I wanted (all good) - thou I ended up going with the initial options offered...
A few minutes later a small pot of coffee was brought out to me with a cup, a saucer, and a small mini-mug of milk. Excellent - they passed the challenge. However, a few things to note - the coffee itself tasted a little gritty and as I got to the bottom of the cup I noticed dark grounds sloshing around the near empty cup, my guess is they left the grinder set to a fine grind - too fine a grind for the presspot.
The other point to note was that whilst the pot was smaller, I was actually charged MORE for the pot than I was at the Pakuranga store - I also noted that the till system had no preset option for a pot of coffee. I guess pricing is then left up to the strength of the wind and the colour of the baristas socks.
Still - the score sits at 2 for 2. Stay tuned for the next challenge...

Hey green... jittery, alert, mind racing - all of the above - yawning and still tired? Surprisingly so, but yes - you're not the first person to comment on how much coffee I'm drinking ;p
Wow -- You're on a roll! Interesting about this pot situation you have going on here -- You know, the arbitrary sizes and prices. A lil beyond my league though -- I mean, I barely have the tall, venti, grande thing down.
I'm a lil concerned, however, about the amount of coffee you're drinking. Are you feeling ok? Not too jittery or anything? Sleeping ok at night? If it gets to be too much, seriously, just ask for a tall ;) Otherwise, enjoy your pots! Looking forward to the next one --
Hi! All coffee at Esquires is Fair trade and organic so come on over more often.
